SideStream Hack 2026: Turning Industrial Side Streams into Valuable Resources
Students are invited to take part in SideStream Hack 2026, a 24-hour hackathon focused on developing engineering solutions to real challenges from industry. The event will take place on November 26–27, 2026, at the Carasso Center for Food Technologies Innovation at the Technion in Haifa.
This year’s theme is industrial side streams: materials and resources generated during manufacturing that are not fully utilized, from leftover raw materials to water, heat and energy. Multidisciplinary teams will work to develop solutions that can turn these streams into resources with economic, technological and environmental value.
Challenges will span the food, biotechnology, chemistry, materials, water and energy sectors. Teams will receive guidance from mentors and industry professionals. Participating companies include Tnuva, NVIDIA, Strauss, Magnum, CBC and Tosefet. Cash prizes will be awarded, including ₪5,000 for first place. The 24-hour event will also include food, overnight activities, special guests, surprises and branded gifts.
An information event on November 3, 2026, will give participants the opportunity to meet the companies and mentors, learn about the challenges and connect with potential teammates. Students without a team can join SideStream Matchmaking to meet peers from other disciplines. Existing teams are welcome to attend together.
SideStream Hack is led by Food Forward and the Technion Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering, in collaboration with the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Technion Sustainability Center.
Participation is free. Students may register individually or as a team by November 8, 2026.
