Selected Courses

Following is a partial list of representative courses that are give in our Department. This list is only given to get a “taste” of the courses for potential candidates. For the full and updated list of courses, see our catalog. Our students take courses in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, as a preparation for engineering courses. The list below relates to engineering courses only.

An Overview of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (054133): An elective course that offers 1st year students a chance to see a variety of topics related to Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in Industry and in Academia.

Introduction to Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (054135): The is the first course in Engineering that our students take after learning general classes such as math and chemistry. Here we learn how to define a “system”, how to analyze processes and account for chemical reactions and unsteady states.

Chemical Engineering Principles (054306, 054203): These are two advanced courses in Chemical Engineering. Here students learn about heat and mass transfer as well as equations to analyze flow.

Chemical and Biochemical Reactor Design (054409, 054419): These are two courses that teach how physical conditions affect the behavior of reactive chemicals, and how one could design reactors to obtain valuable chemical products.

Introduction to Dynamics and System Control (054314): This course teaches the future Engineers how to control processes and intelligently select the design parameters by which the process is best controlled.

Process Design (054410, 054416): These are two integrative courses that involve a group project to solve a complex real-world problem in Chemical Engineering.

Final Research Project (054406, 054407): These are two elective courses that are recommended for high-performing students that involve a research experience in one of the research groups and laboratories at our department.
